I could do a web search for the definition of a joule, but I won't because I'm lazy.

At any rate, I think that you mean that it's the amount of energy required to accelerate one gram by one centemeter per time unit (probably one second). Due to the basic nature of inertia, no energy whatsoever is required to move a gram a centemeter if it was already moving... in fact energy is required to stop it from moving.
